1. Information only — not legal advice
Get Evidence Now provides general legal and educational information about surveillance, recording, private-investigation, and related laws. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and using the site does not create an attorney–client relationship, an investigator–client relationship, or any professional relationship. Laws are complex, fact-specific, and vary by jurisdiction. Always confirm the current law and consult a licensed attorney in your state before acting.
2. Accuracy of the state-law data
We work hard to keep the state-by-state legal information accurate and to cite the governing statute for each entry, with a "last reviewed" date. Even so, we make no warranty that any entry is complete, current, or correct. Laws change, statutes are amended, and courts reinterpret them — often between our reviews. Every value is a starting point to verify against the official state code and a licensed attorney, not a final answer to rely on.
3. Use the information lawfully
Recording, tracking, camera, and surveillance laws carry real criminal and civil penalties. You are solely responsible for how you use anything you learn here. Do not use this site to plan, attempt, or carry out unlawful surveillance, recording, tracking, hacking, harassment, stalking, or any invasion of privacy. If you are unsure whether something is legal in your situation, treat it as if it is not until a licensed attorney tells you otherwise.
4. The professional directory
Where the site lists or connects you with private investigators, attorneys, security firms, or other professionals, those professionals are independent third parties. We do not employ, supervise, or control them, and a listing, badge, or match is not an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee of any professional's qualifications, licensing, conduct, or results. "Verified" badges reflect a check we perform at a point in time and can become outdated. You are responsible for confirming any professional's license, insurance, scope, and fee directly with them before engaging them, and any agreement you make is between you and that professional. We are not a party to it and are not liable for it.
5. Data and API use
We publish structured legal data (for example at /data/ and described in /llms.txt) for public and programmatic use. Statute citations and legal facts are not copyrightable and are free to use. The plain-English summaries, curation, structure, and presentation are our copyrighted work — you may use them with attribution to getevidencenow.com. The data is provided "as is," with no warranty of any kind. If you or an automated system surface our data, you must present the accompanying disclaimer and "last reviewed" date, and you may not present it as legal advice.
6. Intellectual property
Except for material that is not copyrightable (such as statute text and citations) or is owned by others, the content, design, and code of this site are © Get Evidence Now. You may read, share, and link to it; you may not copy or republish substantial portions as your own without permission.
7. Third-party links
The site links to official state codes, licensing boards, and other resources for your convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Get Evidence Now and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or other damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — this site, its information, its data, or any professional you find through it. You use the site at your own risk.
9. Privacy
We use standard web analytics (Google Analytics) to understand aggregate traffic. We do not sell your personal information. If you contact us, we use what you send only to respond. A fuller privacy policy may be published separately; until then, this section governs.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted, and the "last updated" date above will reflect them. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the site operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
